In Christmas gestures set to cost Orange City Council about $125,000 in lost revenue it voted on Tuesday night to remove pool entrance and car park fees. The Ophir car park will be fee-free from Wednesday December 20 to February 1 next year while the pools will be free from Wednesday December 20 to January 31 next year.

Orange City Council last night backed an initial proposal for a “neighbourhood” supermarket as part of the Bloomfield Medical Centre complex opposite the main Orange Hospital on Forest Road.

November 21, 2023By David FitzsimonsFears about Cook Park’s large bat colony has led to the cancellation of the city icon’s 150th celebrations. After hearing a staff report raising concerns about the 4,000-5,000 strong flying fox colony being spooked into panic by noise from the celebrations, Orange City Council voted to drop the anniversary plans at its meeting on Tuesday night. The celebrations featuring a brass band and other entertainment was due to take place this Saturday.

Orange City Council will seek advice from the state government about whether it can remove or relocate the trees elsewhere to comply with a council motion to reinstate about 20 car parking spaces in the street.

October 17, 2023By David FitzsimonsThe future of a $15 million greyhound racing complex in Orange has been thrown into doubt after a proposal by the greyhounds’ association to Orange City Council was knocked back on Tuesday night. After an extensive debate behind closed doors council resolved to “decline an offer” from the NSW Greyhound Breeders Owners and Trainers Association. However council agreed to authorise CEO David Waddell to open negotiations with the GBOTA on the future of the project.
