An Edinburgh fund manager is facing a growing protest over its sponsorship of the arts as the Hay Festival suspended a long-standing partnership. The organisers of the literary event were forced to break ties with Baillie Gifford which has been criticised by artists for its investments in fossil fuels and supporting Israel’s war in Gaza. Suspension of its sponsorship followed “claims raised by campaigners and intense pressure on artists to withdraw”.

What’s on Edinburgh’s stages this week? This week is all about the one-acts: the Scottish Community Drama Association’s competitive Festival of One Act Plays, in which SCDA members compete for prestige and trophies. Taking place over three nights at the Church Hill Theatre (Thurs – Sat: tickets), the nine entries form the Edinburgh and District rounds of the competition. The winners will go on to compete in the Eastern Divisional Final at the McLaren Hall, Killin in April.

The AuthorDavid GreigDavid Greig is a Scottish playwright who studied Drama and English at Bristol University. Since setting up the Suspect Culture theatre company in the 1990s, his plays have been performed widely in Scotland and around the world, including Midsummer, The Events, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory, Local Hero, and The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart. He is currently the Artistic Director at Edinburgh's Lyceum Theatre. Columba's Bones is his first book.
