AbstractThe human skin can reliably capture a wide range of multimodal data over a large surface while providing a soft interface. Artificial technologies using microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) can emulate these biological functions but present numerous challenges in fabrication, delamination due to soft-rigid interfaces, and electrical interference. To address these difficulties, we present a single-layer multimodal sensory skin made using only a highly sensitive hydrogel membrane.

Submitting this article slightly later than I'd have liked, although perhaps the homecoming defeat on Wednesday night puts an even more negative tint on any cynicism regarding his homecoming..... In 2013, David Moyes left Everton for, in his own words, “better things”. For their part, Everton, following Moyes’s departure, were also hoping for someone to take them to the proverbial next level. That they’ve both come back to each other 12 years later – I’m not sure how I feel about this.

While much of that is down to mismanagement at our club, the hopelessness of ever being successful could apply to more than half of the Premier League. And yet they still play to near full houses every week. So why do we do it?

In the nine years from 1975 to 1984, Liverpool won seven league titles and four European Cups. And this was fine. In the nine years from 1992 to 2001, Manchester United won seven league titles, including three domestic doubles and the treble. And this was fine. Shortly after this, Arsenal became the first team since the League’s inaugural season to remain undefeated for an entire campaign. This after winning two domestic doubles in the space of five seasons. And again, this was fine.

The Open Church Day is always the second Saturday of September, and is part of the national event, Ride+Stride. Nearly all our Anglican churches, and several other denominations are open. Bishop Richard Jackson is keen to support the yearly event, but as a Bishop, he cannot show favouritism by being sponsored himself. So he asked David to arrange something using his Harley as a focal point.
