Since Poetry from Daily Life began on Nov. 5, it has featured 11 guests and 50 more poets across the United States are standing by. Counting our host newspaper, the Springfield News-Leader, the column is now carried in at least five newspapers in three states. In name it’s my column, but what makes it so successful are all the other voices who come to share their thoughts, experience, and wisdom about poetry. I don’t know anywhere else you can find such a rich mix of voices. ~ David L.

Interview by Paul CecchiniThe first poem is humorous. The Truth About the Saber-toothBy David L HarrisonThe saber-tooth enforced the lawWith giant canine, leap, and claw. Victims whom he gnawed and chewedAgreed he was a handsome dude. No one thought the saber mean,Just a perfect eating machine. But vision dims as time passes. Soon he needed eating glasses. One day when he went to roam,He forgot his specks at home. Nearsightedly he lost his mate,Who, by accident, he ate.

Since Poetry from Daily Life began Nov. 5, you’ve met poets from Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Alabama, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania. We began in one paper — the Springfield News-Leader — now we’re in at least four. I started with 36 poets and proponents standing by to contribute experience, wit, wisdom, and examples to the fledgling column, now I have more than 60, in the U.S., Canada, and England.
