In Tuesday’s (April 22) Pontotoc Ward One Republican municipal primary runoff election, incumbent alderman Jay Hughes was the winner over challenger Rosalind Key. I was in the midst of writing a “hope to be funny column” for this week when I followed a notion to change course. I enjoy writing columns that are humorous and thank you to each and all who have told me you enjoy them also. A few raindrops didn’t spoil the fun, family and friends atmosphere of the recent 12th annual Blake Mounce Memorial Run for the Park 5K in Ecru. Some ran and some walked (others just enjoyed talking and visiting), but the event raised money for the Blake Mounce Memorial Park in Ecru which has been renovated. Most importantly, smiles were everywhere and all efforts benefited a great cause in memory of Corporal Mounce, a 22-year-old Ecru hero who died serving his country.

At the April 1, 2025, board meeting, Pontotoc Aldermen were presented with an alternate plan seeking to gain their approval for three “Saturday Night” events to be hosted in downtown Pontotoc. Arlissa Whisenant, one of the co-owners of Bookends on Main St. in downtown Pontotoc, had previously asked the board’s approval for three “Saturday Night” events in 2025, including the dates of June 7, August 2 and October 18.
