Tasted on 23/04/2025 Tasted by David Kermode Beaujolais has bounced back, thanks in large part to the quality of the top wines from its 10 ‘Crus’, such as Morgon, which tend to be rather more serious. Offering inviting granite freshness on the nose, the palate has brooding black cherry and blackberry character with a cool crunch to the fruit, notes of charcuterie, supported by vibrant cranberry acidity. After 20 minutes in the fridge, a perfect summer red for a meaty pasta supper.

The perfumed nose leads into a hedgerow feast of bramble and cherry, with a hint of cinnamon bun. The wine is concentrated, complex and crunchy, with a peppercorn finish.

There’s a cool and enticing nose with russet apple, peach and lime zest, underscored by a delicious mountain stream minerality that melds with the intensity of the fruit. An elegant and sophisticated wine to pair with sushi or sashimi.

Tasted by David Kermode M&S has previous form bringing Georgian amber wines onto the UK’s supermarket shelves but this is a new, much better example than anything that has gone before. Produced from Kisi, a wonderful indigenous variety that lends itself to skin contact wines, this has spent six months in qvevri (an earthenware pot). The beguiling nose offers rose petal, tea leaves and chamomile, while the palate is complex but never weighty, with citrus, saffron and blanched hazelnuts.

Tasted on 23/04/2025 Tasted by David Kermode A great value, Italian tank-method sparkler that’s more than a match for most supermarket Prosecco, courtesy of a much more interesting grape variety, Ribolla Gialla, from Friuli, on the border with Austria. The nose offers lashings of lemon, there’s a gentle frothy mousse and a subtle nutty character, while the alcohol feels naturally low at 10.5%. The perfect summer party starter, I also love the label.
