Old Mutual Investment Group (Omig) believes the loss of African Growth and Opportunity Act (Agoa) benefits to South Africa would have a minimal impact on local GDP. ‘The actual impact on GDP would be quite low,’ Omig portfolio manager Meryl Pick (pictured above) said during a media conference. ‘From the research, we’ve looked at between six and 10 basis points of overall GDP.’Last year, research by the Brookings Institution found that if SA lost its Agoa benefits, its GDP would decline by 0.06%.

Schroders, with £777.4bn (R18.8tn) of assets under management, sees signs of recovery in global real estate. The resurgence of global real estate is welcome as the asset class has performed miserably over the past couple of years. The S&P Global Property index, which tracks 815 real estate companies, posted an annualised loss of 2.78% in dollars in the three years to the end of March. When dividends are stripped out, the gauge declined 6.65% a year over the same period.
