Duty, honor, country; mission, men, self. These two sets of three words were fundamental to what I was taught as a young infantry officer before deploying to Vietnam and later serving with several Special Forces units. Unfortunately, Mr. Trump seems to have no fundamental understanding of or commitment to the first of these. His priorities as to the second—Mission-Men-Self—are the opposite of what is essential for a good leader, whether on the battlefield or as an elected leader.

The other day in the grocery store, a woman was wearing a hat that read “Make Lying Wrong Again.” I thought about that. She was right. When I was a kid, that’s what my mother taught me, what we learned at church, what our first-grade teacher taught us. We got punished if we lied. Seems basic. If we want to “Make America Great Again,” we need to “make lying wrong again.” A first step is whomever we support should know at least as much about the wrongness of lying as a first grader.

NEWS RELEASEFormer University of Portland administrator to become SOU’s top academic leader(Ashland, Ore.) — Casey Shillam, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N, who served most recently as dean and professor of the University of Portland School of Nursing & Health Innovations, will be the next Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Southern Oregon University. She will begin her duties at SOU on Friday, March 1.

UPDATE:WHITE CITY, Ore. – The victim from the January 28 shooting in White City died Wednesday, February 21 in an out-of-area hospital. Next of kin has been notified. The victim is Casey Ryan Helmka, 36, of Medford. Our condolences go out to his friends and family during this difficult time. The suspect, Hector Cruz Orozco, 27, of White City, was originally charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.
