The Miami Heat started hot Monday night, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead. However, with Jimmy Butler out due to a sore right knee, Miami was not be able to keep up with the defending champions much longer. Boston was also without stars in Al Horford and Jrue Holiday, but 29 points from Jaylen Brown was more than enough for the Celtics. After suffocating Miami’s offense for 48 minutes, the Celtics (17-4) came out on top 108-89. Back to Miami we go.

Florida football coach Billy Napier said Monday he expects the injury-riddled Gators to be healthier for Saturday’s home game against the No. 21 LSU Tigers. The Gators (4-5, 2-4 SEC) are coming off a 49-17 loss to No. 5 Texas in Austin on Saturday, when the Gators trailed 42-0 about two minutes into the third quarter. The second consecutive loss came just two days after Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin confirmed Napier would continue as coach.

The No. 21 Florida Gator men’s basketball team picked up right where it left off last season in Monday’s season opener against USF in Jackonsville. After averaging 89.8 points per game last season, the Gators handed the Bulls 98 points in the Jacksonville Sports Foundation Invitational at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. South Florida went into halftime with the lea, but a combined 54 points from Walter Clayton Jr. and Will Richard led to a 98-83 Gators win.
