Chesapeake Cycling Club (ridec3.org), based in Easton, held its annual Cranksgiving Food Drive on Sunday, Nov. 19. The event was organized by long-time club member, Kevan Full. It was a beautiful and crisp morning for the more than a dozen club members who met at Sprout in Easton and rode about town on their bicycles in casual attire to purchase and gather the designated grocery items.

High-resolution satellite imagery analysis reveals that poppy cultivation in Afghanistan in 2023 is unlikely to exceed 30,000 hectares (ha), compared to over 210,000 ha in 2022 - a dramatic reduction of more than 85 percent.[1]There is now little doubt that farmers across vast swathes of the country abandoned opium production this year. Most notable is the dramatic fall in cultivation in the province of Helmand, where typically as much as half of Afghanistan’s poppy crop is grown.
