    A CNO discussion I recently moderated has got me thinking more intensely about the state of Canadian journalism. Receiving credible information from trusted sources was a fact of life that many of us took for granted not too long ago. Unfortunately, this information is becoming scarce in a diminished media landscape pockmarked with so-called news deserts and sullied by bad actors.

    The opinion piece by University of Toronto professors Paul Downes and Paul Hamel previously published at this url did not meet the editorial standards of Canada’s National Observer and has been retracted. It was not . It relied on incorrect data and faulty math to falsely accuse the University of Toronto of deceptive greenwashing by failing to fulfill its pledge to divest its endowment fund from investments in fossil fuel companies by 2030.
