AbstractMuch of Western classical music relies on instruments based on acoustic resonance, which produce harmonic or quasi-harmonic sounds. In contrast, since the mid-twentieth century, popular music has increasingly been produced in recording studios, where it is not bound by the constraints of harmonic sounds. In this study, we use modified MPEG-7 features to explore and characterise the evolution of noise and inharmonicity in popular music since 1961.

Two and a half years after Offroad Trucks Australia founder Larry Gill passed away, his legacy dealership has opened its new head office and sales and service facility on a 20,000sqm lot in Forrestdale. Under the direction of Larry’s daughter and managing director Amber Gaden, the local company has doubled the sales volume of the unique Tatra range of heavy-duty off-road trucks into the local and national mining, exploration and construction sector.

In September of last year, a new dealership opened its doors on Kewdale Road in Welshpool. Not cars, not trucks and not buses. Instead, tractors and farm machinery. One could ask, what’s the point in selling a range of products that stretch from market garden and forestry equipment right through to massive broadacre farming tractors from a site in the metropolitan area? Dealer principal and part-owner Paul McGovern had a few answers to that question when West Wheels caught up with him recently.

Scania executives from Australia and overseas attended a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Scania dealership premises in Hope Valley, south of Perth. The factory-owned site is within the boundaries of the City of Kwinana, a hub of manufacturing industry and support operations. The new premises shapes up with a workshop/administration block of just under 1400m2, and a parts warehouse of 3500m2, which replaces a temporary warehouse in Welshpool that was stretched to the limits at just 2000m2.
