INTRODUCTION Glowworms are the bioluminescent larvae of gnats in the genus Arachnocampa, Family Keroplatidae, Order Diptera. They are endemic to Australia and New Zealand (Baker 2010). They are unusual in that they are invertebrate wildlife that has become a major focus of tourism, earning their classification as charismatic micro-fauna (Hall 2012). Sites where they are abundant and accessible can be heavily visited.
