It was "incomprehensible" that the grandparents of a toddler who "collapsed" failed to seek medical help and took him to Tesco instead, a murder trial jury heard today. Dr Sarah Dixon, a consultant paediatrician, said that failure was "motivated in part by a desire to avoid professionals making a diagnosis of child abuse". Dr Dixon was giving evidence on day eight of the trial of Michael Ives, 47, and Kerry Ives, 46, who are accused the of murdering their grandson Ethan Ives-Griffiths.

A man beat up his partner leaving her with blood on her face, a court heard today. Nial Ferry admitted causing actual bodily harm to the woman in Wrexham. A judge in Mold Crown Court today jailed the 23-year-old for ten months. Prosecutor Joseph Lees said Ferry had been in a relationship with the woman since March 31. On May 20 she went to meet him at a property in Davies Court, Wrexham. A neighbour heard a woman shouting "Get off me" and "Leave me alone" .

A paedophile groomed a teenage girl with vapes and alcohol before he sexually abused her repeatedly. Jordan Tarran, now 23, of Flintshire, was jailed at Mold Crown Court for four years and two months for engaging in sexual activity with a child in 2023. The court heard he was due to meet the girl who was just 14-years-old and they took a taxi to Chester. But police became involved and he was caught.

A bank worker stole more than £100,000 from her employer. Lesley Smith defrauded the Lloyds Banking Group out of the money by sending it to her own accounts. The 44-year-old, of King Edward Drive, Flint, gave some money to charity and has repaid about £80,000, Mold Crown Court heard. A judge jailed her today for 16 months after she admitted four counts of fraud by abuse of position. Prosecutor Joseph Lees said Smith had been a customer consultant for Lloyds Banking Group.
