OXFORD United's five-game unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt as they crashed to defeat at Luton Town. They fell behind in only the second minute, when Luke Wilkinson headed in a free-kick from Jake Howells. United might have fallen further behind as Luton dominated early on, but they gradually came back into the game. A lack of spark in the final third let them down, though, with Luton goalkeeper Mark Tyler rarely stretched.

Danny Hylton put them in front early on, but out of nowhere Luton were allowed two goals in three minutes right at the end of the first half. Chey Dunkley levelled shortly after the restart, only for another defensive lapse to allow Joe Pigott to score his second goal of the game.

ALEXIS Canter was proud of the way he pushed the best junior in world tennis over two tight sets at Wimbledon. The Long Wittenham teenager lost 7-6, 7-5 to No 1 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of the boys’ singles yesterday. There was only one break of serve in the match, which the Greek player earned in the 11th game of the second set, before serving out for victory in 1hr 19mins on Court 5.
