WASHINGTON, (WOWO) — President Donald Trump received an open invitation from Roger Penske to attend the Indianapolis 500. On Wednesday, Trump hosted several Team Penske racing champions at the White House, including two-time Indy 500 winner Josef Newgarden. Penske, owner of IndyCar and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, was also present as Trump congratulated the drivers. During the event, Trump praised Penske and suggested he may attend the race.

OHIO, (WOWO) — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine took the opportunity during April’s National Distracted Driving Awareness Month recognition, to report that Ohio is seeing positive, lifesaving results from its “phones down law”. In the two years since he signed the law into effect, DeWine said the State Highway Patrol is reporting that crashes have dropped 8 percent, injuries are down 3 percent and fatalities have dropped 4 percent.

HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — Team THRUST from Huntington County qualified for the national competition in Houston following the FIRST Indiana Robotics State Championships, last weekend. Prior to the state championships, THRUST won district meets in Mishawaka, Kokomo, and Washington, including a state championship in 2024. “Wave Ryder,” the team’s robot, is named after Ryder Sroufe, a former member of Team THRUST who tragically died in a car accident earlier this year.

What they found was the second floor of the home fully engulfed.

STATEWIDE, (WOWO) — Schools in the state suspended students more times in the years after the pandemic than at any point in the prior decade. That’s according to WFYI, looking at data from the state. In the last school year, about 72 thousand 700 public school students — about 7 percent of those enrolled — experienced an out-of-school suspension. It was lower than the peak the previous year, but still higher than pre-pandemic numbers.

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO) — The Allen County Bar Foundation is offering scholarships for students with ties to the county to support equal access to the system. Scholarships provide up to $2,500 to law students for tuition and fees or for bar exam preparation and up to $1,500 for an undergraduate student preparing to take the Law School Admissions Test. Indiana currently has a shortage of practicing attorneys, ranking the state in the bottom ten with only 2.3 attorneys per thousand residents.
