Leaders of the Glendale Teachers Association say at least 12 of their members had their homes damaged or destroyed in the Eaton Fire. Emily Rogers is one of them. The French and computer science teacher at Herbert Hoover High School lost her house in Altadena. She decided to return to the classroom Monday. "I love just seeing [the students'] smiles more than anything, and that's really why I came back to work this week," Rogers said.

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — "The Oregon Trail," one of the most successful computer games of all time and a staple for children of the '80s and '90s, is currently being developed into a movie project. Bill Heinemann says it's hard to find someone these days who hasn't heard of "The Oregon Trail." The computer game he co-created in 1971 at Carleton College in Northfield has sold tens of millions of copies and is in the World Video Game Hall of Fame.

Richfield police are investigating allegations that staff let a patient die at a nursing home RICHFIELD, Minnesota (WCCO) — Police are investigating alarming allegations against a metro nursing home. Richfield police are looking into whether staff at The Villas at Richfield let a patient die then tried to cover it up. A search warrant filed this week says a patient named Candace Columbus, 55, died there this month, and a responding paramedic later filed a report of abuse with the state.

PAUL, Minnesota (WCCO) — Two tragic deaths of Minnesota children with autism are getting the attention of state leaders. This summer, 4-year-old Waeys Mohamed drowned in Hopkins. Mohamed Mohamed, 11, died the same way in Eden Prairie earlier this month. Both boys had autism and eloped, escaped and went missing from their homes.

MINNEAPOLIS — Two tragic deaths this year in Minnesota of children with autism have families on edge and looking for solutions. First, a 4-year-old boy drowned in Hopkins this summer. "It's a fear that you always have, that some day your child will run away," said Fay Jede, the boy's mother. Running away is a common impulse for kids with autism, as is being attracted to water. A second child with autism, an 11-year-old boy, drowned in Eden Prairie this month.

In a letter to families, principal Sarah Sorenson-Wagner said the incident happened on Monday. She said it was unprovoked and happened in English classes for sophomores and seniors, adding the teacher was immediately removed from class and police are now investigating.
