    For the past year-and-a-half, four Adelaide neighbours have been mixing aromatics at home in a bid to craft the perfect vermouth. Now, after an evolution over 13 versions, the group is ready to unleash their creation onto the world. It’s called Equal Parts Vermouth and was developed by Nearly owner Tom Paxton, his partner and artist Cécile Gariépy, former Shaw and Smith head winemaker Matt Large and his partner and ceramicist Bridget Saville.

    In a year that brought significant attention to the Crown & Anchor as a live music venue when its existence was threatened by development, the East End pub was last night named the best of its type at the 2024 Australian Hotels Association SA Awards for Excellence. Tom Skipper, proprietor of the pub that was slated for demolition earlier this year but was rescued after public outrage and the intervention of the Premier with special purpose legislation, said he was “absolutely stoked”.

    Local artist Alice Lindstrom has given the Popeye a fresh design, inspired by the people, animals and plants of the River Torrens. Unveiled this morning, the Popeye’s new look turns the River Torrens into a veritable art gallery, with the design commissioned by the Ramsay Foundation and partners Guildhouse and Visualcom. Entitled ‘River Tapestry’, Lindstrom’s design turns the traditionally blue and white Popeye pink.

    HandleBar has acquired its neighbouring property on Andrew Street in the city’s West End and is set to operate a fully licenced bar and events space to complement its pedal-powered CBD food and drink tours. A new live music venue is also on the cards, with the business’ general manager Thomas Watson telling CityMag to expect country music and Americana vibes.

    A free party in the Adelaide park lands will kick off a series of nine events presented by nightclub Sugar and the new audio arm of local promoters Inside Out over spring and into summer. The opening event – featuring Sydney DJs Dolce and Venda and locals Ivy and Lenin – also acts as the unveiling of Inside Out Audio’s new Funkion-One speaker system, imported from England.
