Steve Stone might be better known these days for his 40-plus years as a baseball broadcaster, but in 1980 he had one of the best seasons for a pitcher in the last 50 years. (AP) — Vinnie Pasquantino's one-out single in the eighth inning drove in Nick Loftin with the game's only run as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Tigers 1-0 on Saturday, snapping Detroit's five-game winning streak. Pasquantino dropped to seventh, from his usual third spot, in the Royals lineup because of Detroit's starter left-hander Tarik Skubal. He blooped a hit into short left field off Beau Brieske (1-2). Loftin had two of KC's four hits, including a double in the eighth.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Michael Wacha said he had plenty left if needed. Wacha had the fourth-longest no-hit bid of his career Saturday before yielding a one-out hit to Colt Keith in the seventh inning of the Kansas City Royals’ 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Wacha did not factor in the decision, but he had his best outing of his two seasons with the Royals. “It’s the best change-up he’s had all year,” manager Matt Quatraro said. “He used his curveball more effectively.

Even with a 14-year career as a pitcher, and a career as a pitching coach that lasted more than 30 years, Dave LaRoche is still best-known for one pitch against one batter. I encourage you to read the story of "LaLob" here: https://t.co/DQjNZkd966

The @Athletics didn't have much to celebrate in their years in Kansas City, but there were a few starts. One of the best was Bert Campaneris. I was at the game when Campy became the first ever to play all nine positions. Enjoy today's feature: https://t.co/hGoRHiJH4M
