Tornado warning sirens were activated in Portales and Clovis, but no touchdowns were reported anywhere outside rural Roosevelt County near Floyd. Witnesses said Mathews Dairy on South Roosevelt Road 2 sustained the most damage.

    CLOVIS — Clovis native Bud Kingston first had the idea 25 years ago, but his work as a cowboy got in the way and he had to put it off. Recently, he completed his dream of traveling horseback across New Mexico, raising money for abandoned and abused horses at the same time. Kingston, 65, and his 4-year-old mare Roja began their journey Aug. 31 at the New Mexico border outside Springerville, Ariz. They wrapped up on Sept. 14 in Texico after 15 days and 432 miles.
