It is clear that the US President and the men and women in his advisory cabinet can not stop military aid to Israel even though most Americans want it to stop. Why is this? This suggestion is for only one of the reasons. Nearly all cabinet members must be confirmed by the Senate. Senators must collect campaign money to keep their jobs. Military product and service corporations with government contracts donate to our Senators.

We must stop military aid to Israel. Congress just gave Israel $17 billion more military aid with no effective oversight. This will buy massive numbers of dead Palestinian civilians, more destruction in Gaza and more profits for the military — industrial companies. It will insure that the organized political agents of Israel continue to have a stronger voice in our government than citizens. This is not what we want. Hamas has no tanks, air force or navy ships.

The Israel-Hamas war inflames world public opinion. Everybody sees it. The Houthis say that they are blocking shipping in the Red Sea because they want a cease fire and humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza. Bombing Yemen (Houthis) further spreads the conflict. Israel uses our bombs and missiles to kill innocent Palestinian women and children. We must stop military aid to Israel, demand a cease fire in Gaza and restart humanitarian aid. American voters want no part of genocide. We want no more war.

In her response to my letter “Revenge is not Justice” (The Union 11/27 and 12/1), Susan Wallace (no relation) justifiably points out that Hamas is a terrorist organization. Their October 7 attack on Israel was wrong. They are violent, apparently intractable and potentially large in number. But indiscriminately bombing Gaza is not the way to eliminate them. Palestinians have not received basic human rights. The Palestinian Authority did not help and was replaced in Gaza by Hamas.
