Silver Lake Dam project contract expanded

Replacing the Silver Lake Dam got an additional boost on Oct. 15 when the El Dorado Irrigation District Board of Directors approved a contract amendment with GEI Consultants Inc. for $424,720 for design, environmental and grant application work. EID’s chief dam safety engineer John Kessler reported while 60% of the design work on the new dam has been completed, additional project components increased the project’s needed complexity analysis and design work.
EID moves forward with capital improvement plan

Following last month’s workshop on an updated five-year capital improvement plan, the El Dorado Irrigation District Board of Directors unanimously approved the finalized plan at its Oct. 15 meeting. The approved CIP extends runs through 2029 and comes with a total price tag of $321 million, subject to available funding. Engineering Manager Jon Money noted that two minor revisions were made to the draft plan presented to the board last month.

Running for the El Dorado Irrigation District Board of Directors Division 1 seat is Paul Penn. George Osborne currently occupies that seat and is retiring after 23 years on the board. A longtime resident, Penn and his family moved to El Dorado County in 1988 and live on a bucolic ranch in Diamond Springs. He currently volunteers with the El Dorado County Fire Safe Council and the Diamond Springs Fire Safe Council.

Throwing his hat in the ring to be the new Division 1 representative on the El Dorado Irrigation District Board of Directors is Noel Russell. No stranger to either the county or EID, Russell has lived here for more than 50 years and recently retired from EID after 29 years in operations with almost a decade of that time as EID’S water construction supervisor.

Despite objections from builders, at the El Dorado Irrigation District Board of Directors unanimously approved an increase in fees to hook up to the water agency. This Sept. 23 action followed last month’s presentation by project manager Sanjay Gaur, whose firm Water Resources Economics was hired to conduct a study of EID’s facility connection charges fees in conjunction with EID staff. This month Gaur was back to recommend the board adopt the study findings.
George Osborne ready for his second retirement

After serving 23 years on the El Dorado Irrigation District Board of Directors, George Osborne will step down at the end of this year and head out for new adventures. The longest-serving member of the current EID board, Osborne, 81, was first elected to fill the remainder of an unexpired term in 2001 and then re-elected to five full terms.
