Two New Service Trucks Showcased By City Of Cleveland

(Cleveland)- Cleveland officials recently showcased two new fleet vehicles that have been added. Monday, April 14, prior to the start of the regular Cleveland City Council meeting, the vehicles, a new service delivery truck and garbage truck, were displayed in the parking lot of the Cleveland Community Center/Police Department building. These new truck replace their counterparts that have been in service for many years. The old Service Delivery Truck, in fact, was purchased in 1989.
Burkett Presented With GSSA President's Award

(Cleveland)- Forecasters are out with a High Fire Danger advisory for northeast Georgia Friday afternoon into the evening hours, with sustained winds of 10 to 15 MPH expected along with gusts of 25 to 30 MPH. Relative Humidities will likely stay above 25 percent. However, dry fuels will add to the high fire danger conditions. It’s advisable that you refrain from any outdoor burning.

Mrs. Alma Elizabeth Pruitt, age 94, of Suches, Georgia, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2025. Born in Suches on June 27, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Rosa Harkins Tow and the late John Harton Tow. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Alma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William J. Pruitt; her children, Tony Mack Pruitt and Joan Wilkins Beall; her siblings Juanita Gooch and JW Tow; stepmother, Thelma Tow; and son-in-laws Robert L. Wilkins and Ben Beall.
Special Olympic Spring Games Friday

White County Fire Services Hosts Regional Ropes I Certification Course

(Cleveland)- Firefighters from across North Georgia were in White County last week for an intensive rope rescue training course that was hosted by White County Fire Services. Bryce Barrett, White County Public Safety Spokesperson, said the 90-hour Ropes I certification program combined rigorous classroom instruction plus actual hands-on technical rescue exercises designed to prepare each first responder for high-risk emergency situations.

Steven Craig Hopkins, U.S. Army veteran, family man, and master craftsman of classic muscle cars, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025, in Clarkesville, Georgia, at the age of 77, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born and raised in Hermosa Beach, California, Craig (AKA Cougar or The Coug) served his country with honor in the Vietnam War from March 1968 to March 1969 as a Radio Operator with the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry (Big Red One).

Highlights of the event were a presentation by Rope Roberts of Rope Roberts Consulting, who revisited the White County Housing Study that was completed last July.
Cleveland to sell old water plant building

(WRWH)—The city of Cleveland is selling the old city water plant located on Highway 129 north of town. The facility sits on a little over two acres of land and, according to City Administrator Kevin Harris, has a tax appraised value of $409,000. Harris said the facility, which has been sitting idle for a number of years, has no good use or public benefit to the city. The council voted to allow the City Administrator to dispose of the property.

Rebekah “Becky” Barron Brown, age 77, of Watkinsville, Georgia formerly of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025. Ms. Brown was born on March 4, 1948 at the Charm House in Clarkesville, Georgia to the late John and Evelyn Ryals Barron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Lori Brown and her brother, Jim Barron. She retired from Nissan after years of dedicated service. Following her retirement, she worked for Oconee Enterprise Newspaper.
