As a Pueblo kid, much of my knowledge about our culture and traditions was passed down to me by my mom and grandparents. In the summers, I’d rise early and eagerly accompany my grandfather to his cornfield on the north side of Mesita Village on the Pueblo of Laguna — my peoples’ ancestral homelands. Neat rows of corn and several apricot trees graced the landscape.
