SIOUX CENTER—Dordt University music department will host the choral ensembles concert at 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, in B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center. It will feature four Dordt choral groups: Belle Voce (women’s chorus), directed by Carrie Groenewold; Canons of Dordt (men’s chorus), directed by Tim Van Voorst; and Chorale and Concert Choir, both directed by Ryan Smit.

The screaming muscles in my legs and hips have finally gotten a rest after the third set of lunges with weights. It’s not like they asked for this. It makes them uncomfortable and they just would rather be in bed sleeping!Up until last year, with an obstinate knee, I had been riding my stationary bike and doing yoga at home. But nothing kicked it up a notch until I had a bad score on a bone density test (DEXA scan).

REGIONAL—Healthy Sioux County, a coalition of community health organizations and community resource providers, encourages schools, colleges, libraries, businesses, healthcare providers, churches and community members to get out in May for the 4th Annual Chalk the Walk. Draw chalk messages or pictures on the sidewalk that encourage, uplift, and spread joy to help reduce the stigma of mental illness, encourage conversations and normalize seeking help.

SIOUX CENTER—Dordt University music department will host the instrumental ensembles concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center. It will feature the Campus-Community band, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind Symphony. The program includes music performances ranging from classics to modern works by 21st century composers, culminating with the Wind Symphony’s presentation of “Symphony No. 7” by Davis Maslanka.

SIOUX CENTER—Dordt University will host a small ensemble concert featuring two student-led groups and two faculty-led groups at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, in B.J. Haan Auditorium in Sioux Center. The percussion ensemble, led by Tori Ensink and comprised of the top six chairs in the Wind Symphony at Dordt, will perform “Celebration II,” a lively marimba piece by Daiki Kato played by five percussionists.
