Nikki Wu’s elementary school teachers, who were patient and made her feel valued, sparked her career choice to become an early childhood educator. To prepare for their future teaching careers, the Cal State Fullerton students enrolled in the university’s new urban learning bachelor’s degree program, which started in the fall.

    Physics alumnus and longtime university supporter Dan Black has directed an irrevocable $3.5 million bequest to create the first named Cal State Fullerton deanship in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Dean Marie Johnson is the first to hold the honorific title of Dan Black Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Johnson, who has served as dean since 2016, said that Black’s commitment is a meaningful legacy of his family’s impact at Cal State Fullerton.

    Cal State Fullerton geologist Kathryn Metcalf is searching for clues into the collision of India and Asia over 60 million years ago that created the Himalayas, the world’s tallest mountain range straddling Tibet and Nepal. Before the two continents collided, not long after the dinosaurs went extinct, India was a large island in the Indian Ocean and far south of Asia. The Himalayas — Mount Everest is the highest peak — have been studied extensively.
