Emmy award-winning and Golden Globe-winning comedy writer, actor and comedian Monica Piper is a staple at The Braid Jewish theatre company. After a smash-hit run off-Broadway, her one-woman show, “NOT THAT JEWISH,” returned to Santa Monica. “NOT THAT JEWISH” is a love letter to being Jewish, as she shares stories of her family – particularly her funny father and passing on the humor gene to her son – and her foray into comedy.

Amy Dell grew up in the restaurant industry and is still deli-adjacent. Her father, who is from Israel, owned Mr. Broadway kosher restaurant in New York City. Her husband, Jake, is the third-generation owner of Katz’ Deli. “When my husband and my father met, one of the first questions my father asked my husband was, would he ever consider making Katz’s Deli kosher?” Dell told the Journal. “He said he’d think about it. My husband did make my father his own kosher pastrami,” she said.

Kindness is one of the ultimate Jewish values, and so is leaving no one behind. In that spirit, Vista Del Mar’s House of Lovingkindness, Beit Chesed, will host its second annual “Neurodiversity of Kindness” performance and art show on Sunday, April 27 at its West Los Angeles campus. The event, co-produced by Vista’s Director of Spiritual Enrichment Rabbi Jackie Redner and Harri James O’Kelley of The O’Kelley Lab, features storytellers of all abilities in a variety of disciplines.
