    Last week, the BBC recommissioned Blue Lights, a six-part television drama about police response officers in Belfast. My writing partner, Adam Patterson, and I worked on the show for three years before it aired last month on BBC1, but in truth its thematic ideas go back much longer than that, through our careers in journalism in Northern Ireland, and even into our childhoods growing up there.
