Westside nature preserve receives state funding

The Ohio Public Works Commission has recently announced a funding allocation of over $686,000 to the department for the conservation of a densely wooded area situated along Eakin Road and Whitethorne Avenue. “We are extremely excited to receive the grant funding for this project,” said recreation and parks spokesperson Kerry Francis.
SWCS could lose millions under state budget proposal

Mike DeWine’s proposed state budget calls for the allocation of $23.4 billion in education funding, which includes the final implementation of the fair school funding formula developed in 2017. However, under the school funding budget proposal, more than half of the state’s public schools would see a reduction in funding.
Running club in Galloway encourages kids to get healthy

Jackson Township to build new maintenance building

The board unanimously approved a resolution at its meeting on March 11 to solicit bids for the planned project. Township officials say the construction of a new maintenance building is long overdue. “The building is so old that it is deteriorating,” said Administrator Shane Farnsworth.
Hilltop will not participate in city-wide elections

At its meeting on March 4, the commission voted against a motion to join the city program which sets a uniform election date for neighborhood advisory boards. The decision was not unanimous. There were nine commissioners who voted against the motion to participate in the city-wide election.

New transportation coordinator appointed in SWCS

At a recent meeting, the board of education approved the appointment of Justin Hagen-Stein as transportation coordinator. He was given a two-year and 180-day contract. He was placed on an administrative salary schedule at the prorated amount of $51,092 for 260 days. His first day in the new role will be on March 3.
New commissioner appointed in the Hilltop

The westside resident will assume the seat formerly held by Rachel Wenning, an elected commissioner who submitted her resignation in October. McKee will serve the remainder of Wenning’s term, which is set to expire on Dec. 31, 2025. This will be the first time McKee has served on an area commission.

During the meeting on Jan. 27, the board unanimously approved a resolution to acquire 14 school buses from Cardinal Bus Sales and Service Inc. at a cost of $1.9 million. Under the terms of the agreement, the district will receive:Eight 78-passenger school busesSix 48-passenger school busesThe school buses will be equipped with digital video systems.
