Adnoc Drilling, the Middle East's largest drilling company, has signed a joint venture agreement with global oilfield services company SLB for its land drilling rigs business in Kuwait and Oman, as the Abu Dhabi company seeks to expand beyond the UAE. The Abu Dhabi company will acquire a 70 per cent stake in the joint venture, it said on Thursday.

The UAE Central Bank has fined two branches of foreign banks operating in the country a cumulative fine of Dh18.1 million ($4.9 million) for breaching anti-money laundering regulations, as the fight against illegal financial activity continues. The regulator imposed a fine of Dh10.6 million on the first bank and Dh7.5 million on the second bank, it said in a statement on Wednesday, without naming the lenders.

The agreement between Dubai's global ports operator DP World and Oman to develop and operate the Al Rawdah Special Economic Zone shows the Gulf economies' intent to strengthen their position at the centre of new global supply chains. The deal for the site in Mahadha, in Oman’s Al Buraimi governorate, was signed during the visit of a high-level UAE delegation to Oman, led by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence.
