WASHINGTON — A Tennessee bartender who carried plastic zip tie handcuffs and a stun gun into the Senate gallery on Jan. 6, 2021, where he was captured in one the most widely shared photos of the U.S. Capitol riot, was sentenced on Friday to nearly five years in prison. Eric Munchel, 32, was convicted of conspiracy and other charges alongside his mother, Lisa Eisenhart, 59, who was also sentenced on Friday to two-and-a-half years in prison.

A mass shooting at a block party early Sunday morning rocked Baltimore over the weekend. A total of 30 people were shot; two of them died and 28 were wounded. More than a dozen victims were minors, and most of the rest were young adults. It was the worst mass shooting in Baltimore since the riots of the Civil War. What happened at Brooklyn Homes isn't new to Baltimore, or to Washington, D.C. up the road, or to the U.S. as a whole.

The hearing to determine whether the Massachusetts Air National Guardsman accused of leaking a trove of classified documents should remain in jail while awaiting trial has been postponed. 21-year-old Jack Teixeira had been scheduled for a detention hearing in Boston’s federal court on Wednesday, but the judge canceled it after Teixeira's lawyers filed a motion saying they needed more time to prepare their case.
