Honda's latest venture is taking it to new heights - literally. The Japanese carmaker announced Wednesday that it successfully launched and landed its own "experimental reusable rocket." Company officials said the roughly 21-foot-tall booster reached an altitude of 890 feet before landing again vertically. The test flight is further indication that space operations around the world are expanding into the commercial sector rather than being limited to a handful of government space agencies.

LAS VEGAS - A punishing heat wave in the Southwest is set to spread east in the coming days, with temperatures more than 90 degrees Fahrenheit expected in the Northeast and possible record highs in parts of New England later this week. Around 15 million people are under extreme heat warnings or advisories across eastern California, Nevada, Arizona and western Texas. High temperatures well into the triple digits are expected to be widespread across the region Wednesday.

From the spacecraft's observations, scientists discovered that magnetic fields with both north and south polarity are currently present at the sun's south pole. This mishmash of magnetism is expected to last only a short time during the solar maximum before the magnetic field flips. Once that happens, a single polarity should slowly build up over time at the poles as the sun heads toward its quiet solar minimum phase, according to ESA.

Four crew members are set to launch Wednesday on a privately funded mission to the International Space Station. The flight, organized by the Houston-based company Axiom Space, is slated to lift off at 8 a.m. ET from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The foursome will journey into orbit in a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule atop a Falcon 9 rocket. NASA will broadcast live coverage of the launch beginning at 7:05 a.m. ET on NASA+.
