McEnearney was accompanied by a young couple who were trying to buy their first house. The units were told it was a “mass casualty event,” that an airplane was in the Potomac River and they were to go to runway 33. At least 10 Alexandria fire and medic units were dispatched to help with the rescue attempt, according to dispatches heard on openmhz.com.
