Brothers Klint and Kalvin Lewis have been part of the Tri City Motor Speedway family for more than a decade, so when they had the chance to own the business, they knew they wanted to take it. For some time, the Lewis brothers knew that Mike Blackmer was looking to possibly sell the Auburn speedway. Reading, writing, and remedies are in the lesson plan for Bay City Central High School. This month, the Great Lakes Bay Health Centers (GLBHC) opened a health care center inside the school, offering primary care, mental health services, and dental and vision checks on campus. The grand opening on Feb. 11 came after about 18 months of planning, construction, and promotion. The Saginaw-based GLBHC provides health care to people who are underserved, uninsured, or underinsured.

If the walls of Bay City’s old Fire Station No. 3 could talk, they’d probably tell tales of daring rescues and community spirit. Thanks to a group of volunteers, those walls are getting the chance to tell their stories. For more than a year, volunteers have been working to create a museum and preserve the historical building at 115 Washington Ave. near the intersection of Washington Street and Columbus Avenue in Downtown Bay City.

Last Christmas, Calli Ruffertshofer got the gift of a lifetime – the keys to her new boutique business, Fran & Dot. Ruffertshofer, who teaches 8th grade English and student leadership at Freeland Public Schools, didn’t have immediate plans for opening her own business. She was content being a loyal customer at Panache, a boutique store that opened in Downtown Bay City in 2016. While shopping, she enjoyed talking with owner Lana Johnson.

How do you switch to green energy without anyone noticing? Bay City can answer that question. For several years, Bay City Electric Light & Power has been exceeding state expectations for changing over to renewable energy sources. Adam Webster, Director of Bay City Electric Light & Power, says the current standards call for 15% of the city’s electricity to come from renewal sources. Bay City is ahead of the game, already producing 24% of its electricity from renewable sources.
