A POSITIVE report about the way Offaly County Council is being run was presented to the Councillors during their recent monthly meeting. The report was carried out by an external Audit Committee which extensively went through the Council's books making sure everything was being run in an appropriate way.

A treasured shop front in Offaly will be retained during renovation work. The Birr & Midlands Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society told Offaly Live that it is 'delighted' that restoration work is presently taking place at Doolin's Arcade in Market Square, Birr. “Doolin's is one of our treasured, iconic shop fronts in Birr,” a spokesperson for the Chapter said. “The new owners are doing mighty renovation work inside and out.

Two young men were arrested for committing public order offences during St Patrick's Day in Birr Town. Late on St Patrick's night, at 2.45am, a young man was engaged in an altercation with another family member. When he was approached by the Gardaí he became aggressive and verbally abusive. He was asked to leave the area by gardai but failed to do so. He was therefore arrested. At 7.40pm on Wilmer Road a young man was observed drinking in public from a bottle of Vodka.
