ROUND THE WORLD47 The Wilde Family Home, 1 Merrion Square, DUBLINOscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde was born in 1854 at 21 Westland Row, Dublin, now home to the Oscar Wilde Centre for Irish Writing. He had an older brother William Robert Kingsbury (1852 - 1899) who was to become a poet, a journalist, estranged from Oscar, impoverished and to meet an early death due to complications related to alcoholism.

ROUND THE WORLD46 - GOLDFINGER - 18 April 2025On the day we left Hong Kong I trapped one of my fingers in a heavy bronze sliding door. It hurt like hell. Silly me. A bruise appeared at the base of the nail which instead of quickly resolving got larger and larger as the nail grew. To date no sign of the bruising coming to an end; hopefully not presaging a lost nail.
