    GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota Director of Athletics Bill Chaves and Mallory Bernhard announced on Monday that Bernhard will be stepping down as head coach of the women’s basketball program at North Dakota after five seasons. In addition, current Associate Head Coach Dennis Hutter has been named the program’s eighth head coach effective immediately. “Today Coach Bernhard informed me of her decision to step away from UND women’s basketball,” said Chaves.

    Brooks Bakko scored after grabbing an offensive rebound on a three-point attempt missed by Kindred in the final second to defeat Devils Lake 59-58 in the North Dakota Division A Boy’s State Basketball Tournament championship game. The Vikings started off the game slow, trailing by as much as 26 points in the first half, and went to the halftime break down by 20. It was Kindred’s first State Championship since they won the ND Class B title in 2021.

    Jayden Jubenvill scored the third of three unanswered goals for the University of North Dakota to defeat Omaha 3-2 to qualify for the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Friday. The Mavericks led 2-0 before freshman Cade Littler, who scored two goals, including the game winner Friday night, ripped in the tying goal 29 seconds after Carter Wilkie got the Fighting Hawks on the board early in the third. UND will either play at 4 or 7:30 for the semifinal round.
