What could have been three speed enforcement cameras was bumped up to a fourth purchase during a recent Penetanguishene council meeting. Following a special meeting of council which dealt with intellectual property, contract and pricing for automated speed enforcement cameras, council received a report in their regular meeting which recommended installations in three designated community safety zones in the fall.

Local area councils received a look at the community safety and well-being plans for the next four years recently, and were met with rounds of approval throughout. Karie Warnar of Avail Consulting presented the 2025-2029 plans to Tay Township, Midland and Penetanguishene councils in recent meetings, providing an overview of the risks, changes, legislations and more while gaining feedback and support from the political heads.

Midland Deputy Mayor Beth Prost said she was “so happy that we can hopefully reduce” the apparent threat of speeding which she had witnessed over decades, including accidents and hit pedestrians. Her comments were made to MidlandToday after the recent committee of the whole meeting, where a staff recommendation for calming measures at the intersection of Midland Avenue and Elizabeth Street was amended further by council members to make the trouble spot even safer.
