There are few things more annoying than squishy, desperate for attention former so-called Republicans who insist they are the gatekeepers of what is and is not conservative. You know the types, the people who threw a big hissy fit about how “they didn’t leave the party, the party left them.” The most noise they ever made in their political lives was when they were “quitting the party,” which makes you wonder what they ever did for the cause of conservatism. The answer is nothing.

More floor speeches will go viral on the left, some from people you’ve heard of, others from people you haven’t. None will really matter as the party scrambles to find a reason to continue to exist. It says something about a political party: they rally around anyone who, even if only for a moment, offers a vision or something that can pass as one. Not that they can actually pass one, but they don’t need to accomplish things – words are enough.

You knew it was coming: the next big conspiracy theory about President Trump. They clung to Russia as long as humanly possible, parlayed that into “He’s Putin’s puppet,” and rolled into the idea that he’s corrupt beyond belief without being able to name anyway in which he is, in fact, corrupt, which would seem like a crucial element of a corruption charge. Well, now they’ve collectively come up with a new one, still vague, but new – insider trading. How? It doesn’t matter, really.
