O’Neill, who was named the LFD’s next chief in May, is a 20-year veteran of the department who most recently served as a battalion chief. A Marine Corps veteran, he also served as president of the Louisville Professional Firefighters Local #54 for a decade.

KXAS-TV (NBC5) reported that Mesquite Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire a little before 2 a.m. in the 300 block of Kimberly Drive, near North Bryan-Belt Line Road. The structure sustained heavy damage, and one victim died in the fire. No firefighters were injured in the blaze, the news station reported.
