The reigning Young Hurler of the Year admits there was never any doubts in the Clare squad that they could get their season back on track. Scariff clubman Mark Rodgers was among the goalscorers for the Banner in their Munster championship win over Cork in Pairc ui Chaoimh. Clare now have a break until Sunday May 19th when Davy Fitzgerald’s Waterford come to Cusack Park. Rodgers says they will work hard to be ready for that challenge when it arrives.

Clare will find out their opponents in the All Ireland football championship group stages this afternoon. The Banner are guaranteed either a first or second seedings in the draw because of their progression to next weekends Munster final. The group stages will consist of four groups of four teams, with Clare having home advantage for the first game of the series. The draw is due to be made this afternoon at 3pm.

There’s plenty Clare interest on the opening day of the 2024 Punchestown Festival. Tubber jockey Derek O’Connor has two rides on the card, as he partners Kolbert St Georges in the Goffs Bumper at 4.50pm, along with taking the ride aboard Colcannon for Noel Meade in the closing race of the day at 6.35pm. Cratloe jockey Mark McDonagh goes on Decimation for trainer Emmet McNamara in the 3.05pm handicap hurdle, while Clarecastle trainer Gearoid O’Loughlin saddles Art of Innocent in the Bumper.

The West Clare side captured honours in Cusack Park this afternoon with a 2-9 to 1-7 win over Colaiste Muire. Meanwhile St John Bosco Kildysart won the Senior C title. They beat St Michael’s Kilmihil in the decider
