It was supposed to be a showdown between the two remaining unbeaten teams in the District 2-4A softball race but what it turned out to be was another pitching clinic by West’s Briony Bunsic as the Lady Trojans smacked cross-town rival East, 9-0, Thursday night at J. C. Wild Park. Bunsic, who has never lost a regular-season game to a district opponent, tossed a three-hitter and struck out 13 as West improved to 12-5-2 for the season and stayed perfect at 5-0 in league play.

NEWPORT — Cocke County scored all its runs in the first three innings Monday afternoon in rolling to an 8-0 softball triumph over Morristown East. Sophomore Elle Proffitt blanked the Lady Hurricanes on four singles as the Lady Red racked up the win. Cocke County is now 1`9-3-1 for the season while East fell to 13-8-1. Proffitt was in control from the start as only one East runner made it as far as second base. She walked only two and registered 10 strike outs.

Morristown East improved to 3-0 in District 2-4A softball by pounding visiting Sevier County, 13-3, in five innings Thursday afternoon at King Park. The Lady Hurricanes, now 6-5-1 for the season, fell behind in the top of the first but scored six times in the bottom of the inning and were never threatened. Harmony Sullivan continued her hot hitting with four safeties and Jaycee Hamilton added a pair of doubles and a single and knocked in four runs.

Morristown East racked up its second District Two 4-A victory without a loss by pounding visiting Jefferson County, 9-1, Tuesday afternoon at King Park. The Lady Hurricanes improved to 5-5-1 behind a 10-hit attack and the pitching of Ella Wampler. Jaycee Hamilton rapped out three doubles, Harmony Sullivan added a pair of triples and Ava Combs also had two hits for East. Wampler scattered six hits in going the distance on the mound.

Seymour was in control all the way Thursday afternoon in dealing Morristown East an 8-0 setback on Price-Williams Field at Sherwood Park. The Eagles pounded out 13 hits and Dylan Bridges and Keeton McGill combined to blank the Hurricanes on five hits. It was the ninth win against six losses for Seymour while the Hurricanes slipped to 3-11. Bridges pitched the first six innings and allowed only three runners to reach base. He promptly picked two of those off first base.
