A special election in Bryant on Tuesday, May 13, will give voters the opportunity to decide the future of a proposed $48 million bond initiative that city leaders say could bring a major boost to community events, entertainment options and economic growth — all without raising taxes. The election, unanimously approved by the Bryant City Council on February 13, includes two ballot questions. The first seeks authorization to refinance $14.72 million in bonds originally issued in 2016.

Benton now has the right to claim the mantle of the home of the largest groundbreaking in Buc-ee’s history, according to the company’s owner, Arch “Beaver” Alpin III, at the store’s groundbreaking event on Wednesday, April 16. “By the way, this is the biggest groundbreaking that we’ve ever had. Bigger than in Texas,” said Alpin. The owner of Buc-ee’s announced that the company’s first Arkansas location—featuring 120 gas pumps and a 74,000-square-foot store—is expected to open by September 2026.

The Benton School Board approved the hiring of three new assistant superintendents during its meeting Monday night. The district is continuing to accept applications for the Athletic Director position and plans to begin the interview process “in the next couple of weeks,” according to incoming Superintendent Chris Nail.

The Benton School Board approved its superintendent contract with Chris Nail, who will begin his tenure as the Superintendent of Benton School District on July 1. Nail’s annual salary is $230,000, according to the contract which ends on June 30, 2028. Current Benton Superintendent Kim Anderson, who ends her tenure on June 31, received a total compensation package of $190,415.76 per year in her contract.
