3.3 Projected Future Changes in Heatwave Characteristics To evaluate the future multi-aspect variations of heatwave events, we investigate the temporal evolutions of four heatwave indices in each sub-region during the period of 2020–2100 (Figure 3). The heatwave characteristics projected in SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 are shown in the middle and right columns. For comparison, the historical heatwave variations averaged over the period of 1981–2010 of each sub-region are shown in the left column.
