1 IntroductionHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most frequently occurring cancer worldwide and the third most common cause of cancer mortality (1). HCC is highly associated with chronic viral hepatitis (2, 3), alcohol (4), smoke (5), iron (6), and metabolic dysfunction (7, 8). To date, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) have been reported as commonest risk factors for HCC. Almost half of HCCs are associated with HBV infection, and this figure is even higher in Asian.
