The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) has enjoyed a wonderful series of concerts featuring the three dramatic Symphonies by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov. These concerts built on the success of last year’s series of three Rachmaninov piano concertos. And again, the ASO welcomed US conductor and concert pianist Andrew Litton to lead them in these works. Each performance featured a selection of works before the interval with the headline Symphony filling out the second half.

The popular Rockhampton River Festival is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year with Riverfest X. The Festival marks and celebrates the significant transformation and growth that the Rockhampton region – and the local community – has experienced since the first iteration of the Festival back in 2014. Riverfest X gets off to a great start on Friday 26 July with the Country on Quay opening night concert and an outstanding lineup of country music talent.

Cabaret star Christina Bianco is a self-confessed ‘diva-holic’. An American actress and singer now living in London, she’s starred in musicals on stage and on television and is excited to be cast in a new Andrew Lloyd Webber show later this year. Bianco came to fame as a vocal impressionist with her many YouTube videos of those divas she so admires.

The 2024 Adelaide Cabaret Festival got off to a glittering start with the annual Variety Gala at the Festival Theatre last Friday night. The fun began before you even walked in the door, with the fabulous Adelaide DJ Ruby Chew spinning tunes on the Plaza forecourt as photographers snapped the glitz and glamour on the red carpet. Adelaide audiences aren’t always known for dressing up, but this is one night when all the sequins and sparkles came out to play.

A comic operetta in three acts by Leonard Bernstein, based on Voltaire’s philosophical tale Candide ou l’Optimisme from 1759, Candide first opened in Boston in 1956. Although not a hit initially (and that’s being polite…) the revised version, with input from musical theatre legend Stephen Sondheim, opened in New York in December 1973 and was met with hearty applause. This version has played widely ever since.
