“Positive Phee” is the brainchild of Sophie Hague (above). She creates sustainable fashion events named Sip & Style. The most recent one was on March 23 at the Bivouac Adventure Lodge in North Park. Guest shopped pre-curated fashion items, including clothing, shoes, and accessories. With the price of admission, each guest received a drink and a shopping bag to fill with as many items as they could put into the bag. Hague organizes three of these events each year at different locations.

The San Diego Gaslamp Quarter presented the Gaslamp Pet Parade and Pups in the Pub Party Downtown on Dec. 14. This 16th annual event brought the holiday spirit into the historic neighborhood with pet owners and their furry friends decked out in their best holiday regalia. The crowd enjoyed vendors and free photos with Santa, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and Frosty the Snowman.

The Arc of San Diego hosted the Winter Wonderland Fashion Show and Luncheon on Dec. 6 at the US Grant Hotel. This year's theme was "Marching Into the Holidays; A Nutcracker Extravaganza," which set the perfect tone for the festive occasion. The event began with a holiday shopping boutique and silent auction, offering guests an opportunity to browse and bid on unique treasures. The emcee for the afternoon was the choreographer and dance personality Mary Murphy.

Chrisman-Campbell is an award-winning fashion historian, curator, and journalist. She discussed her book, “Red, White, and Blue on the Runway: The 1968 White House Fashion Show and the Politics of American Style,” offering attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the only fashion show ever held at the White House.

Opening Day is always like a fashion show, with spectators showing off their stylish hats and dresses while placing bets on their favorite horses. Although the race track can hold 44,000 people, this year they capped it at 22,484 to ensure a better experience for everyone.

The Fashion Runway 40 Gala was presented by award-winning designer Ugochi Iwuaba on July 6 at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, Pan American Plaza. The hostess for the evening was Abena Akuaba who has been awarded prestigious titles such as Miss Grand International 2020 and Miss Grand USA ’20. Ugochi, who is a native of Nigeria, blends two cultures with the colorful, bold, and flamboyant styles of Nigeria and the mellow calmness of San Diego. It is a fusion of African and Western cultures.

Man & His Dog Fashion Show and Fundraiser took place at Pacific Sotheby’s International Realty in La Jolla on June 15th. The first-ever event of its kind in the US was hosted by realtor Dave Hatt. Hatt is from Canada where he attended a similar event there held by his good friend and hockey team mate, Dale Olsen. Hatt asked him permission to take his idea and have his own event here. Proceeds from the fundraiser go to Mad Mutts Dog Rescue.
Mesa College’s annual fashion show introduces next generation of designers

The 43rd Annual Golden Scissors Fashion Show was presented by the Fashion Department at San Diego Mesa College on May 17. The event, held outdoors on the community college campus in Clairemont Mesa, began with a VIP reception. The crowd was entertained by the Garza Quintet directed by N. Scott Robinson. A design showcase of the students’ work was there for all to enjoy, and a meet and greet with the student designers set to take on the fashion world was featured.
