The publication of Regulation No. 7/2023 (RRGA) on December 29 2023 by the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM) helped to clarify several practical dilemmas encountered by private equity players and resolve several questions and omissions that arose under the previous regulation. The RRGA regulates the asset management regime (RGA) approved by Decree-Law No. 27/2023, which entered into force on May 28 2023.

On June 13 2023, the European Commission (EC) released a new package of measures aiming to expand on and enhance the EU sustainable finance framework, promoting additional financial flows into sustainable initiatives. The EC’s updates address the existing framework’s inconsistencies, complexity, and regulatory gaps, increasing its readability, coherence and alignment while decreasing firms’ administrative burden.

Crowdfunding - or the use of online platforms to raise money for business ventures or other organizations from either donations or investments from multiple individual or legal persons - has been steadily gaining traction in Africa. Still, crowdfunding in Africa remains limited compared to other regions and specially in Mozambique, the phenomenon is somewhat lagging other regions and even fellow countries of the Southern African Development Community.
