We are thrilled to announce that Colby Smith of The Financial Times is joining The Times as our new Federal Reserve correspondent. Colby joins the economics team after nearly seven years at The F.T., where she most recently led the paper’s coverage of the Fed and the world’s largest economy as U.S. economics editor. In that role, she also wrote about the Treasury department, International Monetary Fund and World Bank.

We’re thrilled to announce that Devlin Barrett of The Washington Post is joining The New York Times to cover the Department of Justice and law enforcement. Devlin has been a Justice and F.B.I. reporter for more than 20 years, and has been part of reporting teams at The Post that won Pulitzer Prizes in 2018 and 2022. In 2017 he was a co-finalist for the Pulitzers for Feature Writing and for International Reporting.

Jennifer spent more than 18 years at The Journal, most recently as deputy chief of investigations, a position she held from 2014 until last week. She worked with the investigations team and reporters across the newsroom to produce big projects, long-form narratives and quick hits. Her stories were part of The Journal’s exclusives on Trump’s hush money payments, which won the Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting in 2019.
