It’s been well over ten years since we last saw Captain Titus of the Ultramarines face off against the Orks and Chaos, so it’s comforting to finally get to continue his story after so long of wondering if we’d ever get a sequel to that original game. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is finally here, and boy is it a blast.

2023 has been firing on all cylinders off the bat with the games that have been released this year, to the point where I genuinely think it’s one of, if not the best year for games ever. We got some absolute bangers in practically every genre, and I’d be shocked to see someone argue nothing worthwhile released this year. Stalking through a dark forest, you play as “the girl”; a woman who loses her family to a cult which prompts you on a blood-soaked revenge mission against them and their leader in Children of the Sun. Children of the Sun’s story is told through brief flashbacks to the girl’s time in the cult, slowly revealing the atrocities done to her and others, all at the whim of their leader.

The Prince of Persia series has been on ice for a shocking amount of time for what was such a beloved series. Thirteen years, since the sorta (but then not really) movie tie-in, The Forgotten Sands released in 2010. Since then we’ve only had whispers and broken dreams of a new title, with one reboot being outright canceled and a remake of the original Sands of Time being quietly thrown into development hell.

Thirteen years. I don’t think I’ve waited longer for a sequel to a game I loved and after being invited to try the game early, I can say that Alan Wake 2 is a real game and is shaping up to be an exciting sequel. Set thirteen years after the first game, my demo started with FBI agent Saga Anderson who travels to the town of Bright Falls to investigate a string of murders committed by a cult, and Alan Wake, who’s been missing this entire time, is suspect number one.

We haven’t seen hide nor hair of Armored Core for well over ten years, and many longtime fans eventually started to wonder if we might ever see another, what with FromSoftware finding success with Dark Souls. Life is good though, because we’ve been blessed with a new game in the series, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, and it’s safe to say this one is a winner. Prince of Persia hasn’t had the best of luck with getting a new game off the ground, with our last outing with the titular prince being all the way back in 2010. Alongside a remake of the original Sands of Time game, Ubisoft is double dipping by giving us a more traditional 2D game as well with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Playing in a 2D, metroidvania style, The Lost Crown is a slick package both in how it looks and plays.

I’m a big fan of the Dark Souls series and always keep my eye out for any similar games in the genre. I’m also a big fan of crabs. Combining the two seems like such a no brainer that I’m surprised it’s taken this long for it to happen. Another Crab’s Treasure being a soulslike of course has your typically grim/abstract story that you expect from the genre: you play as Kril, a hermit crab, who’s on a journey to buy back their repossessed shell.
